Mercedes-AMG has announced its two-seater super sports car concept named, Project ONE last year at International Motor Show in Frankfurt/Main to celebrate AMG’s 50th anniversary. This going to be the number 1 project for the Mercedes and current & upcoming super-sports cars itself. This will be the world first because, this very latest and efficient car will be based on Formula 1 plug-in hybrid technology from race track to road and will generate over 1,000 PS and can go up to 350 km/h of top speed.

Formula 1 and the experts of Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains works together on the engine side of this beast. This powerhouse is comprising of one hybrid, combustion engine which in turbocharged with four electric motors. In this four motors, one has been given for turbocharger, another has been directly linked to combustion engine which is further linked to crankcase and other two is to drive front wheels.

The speed of this car remains significantly below the formula 1 speed limit because of its longer life and use of Super Plus petrol instead of racing fuel. This is Mid-engines i.e. ahead of the rear axle. and can go up to 11,000 rpm. This engine with direct injection and electric turbocharged, 1.6-litre V6 hybrid petrol inspired from the Mercedes-AMG Petronas formula 1 racing car which will use pneumatic valve spring instead of mechanical valve spring to achieve higher engine speed.

Its response is greatly reduced to lower than that of the naturally aspirated V-8 engine. Because accelerator pedal commands and turbo lag is eliminated in this. Electric turbo uses part of the additional energy from exhaust to generate electricity which provides addition power via electric motor or can be stored in high-voltage lithium-ion battery. Here it needs to clarify that from electric drive motors can generate 120kW of power individually.

With this beast, driver initially move purely electrically but when the driver presses pedal more firmly means that, demands more power, the combustion engine comes in. Fro, 0 to 200 km/h under 6 sec only. When pedal is released, it switches to only electric. Up to 80% of the energy can be stored in the battery while normal braking condition.

Project ONE will be comprised with 8-speed manual transmission which can be operated automatically or manually using the shift paddles. For braking system, ceramic high-performance compound braking system will be used. Hence out of all these, anyone could say this project from the Mercedes-Benz will be the history making plug-in hybrid super sports car of the new advanced generation based on Formula 1.
